Nail & Skin Care from Your Sydney Foot Doctor

What We Do

Your Sydney Foot Doctor

As your foot doctor in Sydney, Great Feets Podiatry provides a full range of nail and skin care treatments. We treat ingrown toenails, fungal infections, corns, calluses, cracked heels, and more.

Many nail and skin conditions worsen without proper care. A minor callus or slightly ingrown nail can become painful and infected over time. Treating these problems early prevents more serious complications later.

Our podiatrists use medical-grade instruments and sterilised techniques at every appointment. This sets our care apart from beauty salons and nail bars. You can be confident that your feet are in clinically trained hands.

In some cases, nail and skin problems are linked to underlying health conditions such as diabetes. Where this applies, we assess your overall foot health and coordinate your care accordingly.

Your Visit

What to expect at your nail and skin care appointment

Your appointment at Great Feets is straightforward. Here is what typically happens when you visit our Sydney clinic for nail and skin care.

01

Assessment of Your Feet

We begin by examining your feet, nails, and skin. We look at the condition of each nail, identify any skin concerns, and check for signs of underlying problems such as fungal infection or circulation issues.

02

Treatment at the Same Appointment

In most cases, treatment is provided at your first visit. We use medical-grade, sterilised instruments throughout. We explain what we are doing at each step so you always know what to expect.

03

Home Care Advice

Before you leave, we give you clear advice on home care and prevention. This includes guidance on footwear, hygiene routines, and any products that will support your recovery between visits.

04

Follow-Up if Needed

Some conditions need more than one visit to fully resolve. If a follow-up is needed, we let you know and help you plan an appropriate schedule for your situation.

What is the difference between a podiatrist and a nail salon?

A podiatrist is a qualified health professional trained to diagnose and treat medical conditions of the foot. We use medical-grade, sterilised instruments in a clinical setting. A nail salon provides cosmetic nail care only and cannot legally use scalpel blades or treat infected nails. For painful, infected, or complex nail and skin conditions, a foot doctor is the right choice.

Can a podiatrist treat ingrown toenails permanently?

Yes. For ingrown toenails that keep coming back, we offer a minor surgical procedure called Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA). This permanently removes the problematic portion of the nail. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and has a very high success rate.

How do I know if I have a fungal nail infection?

Common signs include yellowing, thickening, or crumbling of the nail, as well as a change in texture or a white or brown discolouration. Fungal infections often start at the tip of the nail and spread gradually. If you are unsure, our Sydney foot doctors can examine your nails and confirm a diagnosis at your appointment.

Are nail and skin treatments painful?

Most nail and skin treatments at Great Feets are gentle and cause little or no discomfort. Ingrown toenail surgery is performed under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel pain during the procedure. We take care to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout every appointment.

Is nail and skin care covered by private health insurance?

Many private health insurance policies with extras cover include a rebate for podiatry appointments, including nail and skin care. We process HICAPS claims on-the-spot, so you only pay the gap at the time of your visit. We recommend checking with your fund before your appointment to understand your entitlements.

How often should I visit a foot doctor for nail care?

This depends on your individual needs. Patients with no specific concerns often come in every 8 to 12 weeks for routine nail care. Those managing ongoing conditions such as fungal infections or thickened nails may need more frequent visits. Your podiatrist will recommend an appropriate schedule at your first appointment.

Where is Great Feets Podiatry located?

We are at Shop 10, 161 Redfern Street, Redfern NSW 2016, directly opposite Redfern Station. Enter via Gibbons Street. We are accessible from Surry Hills, Waterloo, Newtown, Alexandria, and across Sydney’s Inner West.
