General Podiatry in Sydney
Your Sydney Podiatrist
General podiatry covers the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common foot and lower limb conditions. It forms the foundation of podiatric care – addressing everyday issues that can significantly affect your comfort and mobility if left untreated.
At Great Feets Podiatry, our Redfern clinic provides general podiatry appointments that go beyond a basic tidy-up. We assess your overall foot health at every visit, identify early signs of developing conditions, and provide treatment and advice tailored to your specific needs and lifestyle.
Our Sydney podiatrists hold recognised qualifications and maintain ongoing professional development, ensuring every recommendation we make is grounded in current clinical evidence. We are proud members of the Australian Podiatry Association (NSW & ACT) and an approved DVA provider.

Your Visit
What to expect at your first appointment
Many people are unsure what a podiatry appointment involves. Here is what happens when you visit our Redfern podiatry clinic for a general consultation.
01
We Listen First
Your appointment starts with a conversation. We ask about your current concerns, medical history, lifestyle, and footwear habits - because understanding your full picture helps us arrive at the right diagnosis.
02
Thorough Assessment
We examine your feet, nails, and skin carefully. For general appointments, this often includes checking circulation, sensation, and identifying any areas of concern that may not yet be causing symptoms.
03
Treatment & Care
Where appropriate, treatment is provided at the same appointment - whether that is nail care, skin debridement, or the management of a specific condition. We explain what we are doing and why at every step.
04
Advice & Next Steps
We provide clear take-home advice on footwear, hygiene, and any follow-up that would benefit you. If a further appointment or referral is needed, we will let you know and help coordinate your care.
A podiatrist is a healthcare professional who specialises in conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. General podiatry covers a broad scope – from routine nail and skin care through to the diagnosis and treatment of structural problems, gait issues, and chronic conditions such as diabetes.
No. You can book directly with Great Feets Podiatry without a GP referral. However, if your GP has referred you under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate on some appointments – please bring your referral letter if this applies to you.
Many private health insurance policies include podiatry under their extras cover. The amount covered depends on your specific fund and level of cover. We process HICAPS claims on-the-spot, so you only pay any out-of-pocket gap at the time of your visit. We recommend checking with your fund before your appointment if you are unsure.
This depends on your individual needs. Patients with no specific concerns typically benefit from a check-up every 6–12 months. Those managing diabetes, recurring ingrown toenails, or complex skin and nail problems often benefit from visits every 6–8 weeks. Your podiatrist will recommend a schedule based on your assessment.
Medicare does not cover routine podiatry appointments. However, if you have a chronic condition and a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement, your GP may refer you for up to five Medicare-subsidised podiatry sessions per year under the Chronic Disease Management Scheme. Speak to your GP to find out whether you qualify.
We recommend bringing your everyday shoes and, if relevant, any sports or work footwear. If you have been referred by a GP or specialist, bring your referral letter. It is also helpful to note any current medications, as some can affect foot health and healing.
We are at Shop 10, 161 Redfern Street, Redfern NSW 2016 – directly opposite Redfern Station. Enter via Gibbons Street. We are easily accessible from across Sydney’s Inner West and surrounding suburbs.
