Sydney Foot Pain Clinic

What We Do

Our Foot Pain Clinic

At our Sydney foot pain clinic, we focus on finding the root cause of your discomfort. We do not just treat the symptom in front of us.

Foot pain rarely stays in one place. Poor foot mechanics can place extra strain on your ankle, knee, hip, and lower back. Because of this, treating foot pain properly often improves pain throughout the body.

Our podiatrists take a thorough approach at every appointment. We assess your history, examine your foot structure, and watch how you walk. This gives us a clear, accurate diagnosis from the start.

For complex or recurring pain, we often recommend a full biomechanical assessment. This helps us understand exactly what is driving your symptoms before we begin treatment.

What We Treat

Foot and lower limb pain we treat at our Sydney clinic

Foot pain has many possible causes. Below are some of the most common conditions we see and treat at our Redfern foot pain clinic.

Plantar Fasciitis

One of the most common causes of heel pain. We treat inflammation of the plantar fascia using proven, evidence-based methods.

Heel Spurs

Bony growths on the heel that often accompany plantar fasciitis. We assess and treat the underlying cause, not just the spur itself.

Achilles Tendon Pain

Pain and stiffness at the back of the heel, often linked to overuse, tight calf muscles, or poor foot mechanics.

Bunions

A painful bony bump at the base of the big toe. We offer conservative management to ease pain and slow progression.

Morton's Neuroma

A painful thickening of nerve tissue between the toes, often felt as burning or tingling in the ball of the foot.

Shin Splints

Pain along the shin bone, common in runners and active patients. Frequently linked to foot mechanics and training load.

Sports Injuries

From ankle sprains to overuse injuries, we help active patients recover and return to the activities they enjoy.

Growing Pains (Sever's Disease)

Heel pain in growing children, often linked to activity levels and tight calf muscles during growth spurts.

General Foot and Ankle Pain

If your pain does not fit neatly into a category, we will assess your foot thoroughly to find the cause.

Your Visit

What to expect at your foot pain appointment

Getting to the bottom of foot pain takes a clear process. Here is what happens when you visit our Sydney foot pain clinic.

01

Your History

We start by asking when your pain began, what makes it better or worse, and how it affects your daily activity. This context helps guide our examination.

02

Physical Examination

We examine the painful area closely, alongside your overall foot structure and joint movement. This often reveals contributing factors beyond the obvious symptom.

03

Diagnosis and Explanation

We explain exactly what is causing your pain in plain language. Understanding the cause helps you feel confident about the treatment plan ahead.

04

Treatment Plan

Your treatment may include strapping, footwear advice, exercises, or orthotics. We tailor the plan to your specific condition, lifestyle, and goals.

What is the most common cause of foot pain?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of foot pain, particularly heel pain. It occurs when the band of tissue running along the bottom of the foot becomes inflamed. Other common causes include Achilles tendon pain, bunions, and poor footwear choices. A proper assessment is the best way to confirm the exact cause of your pain.

Why is my heel pain worse in the morning?

This is a classic sign of plantar fasciitis. Overnight, the plantar fascia tightens. The first few steps in the morning stretch it suddenly, which often causes sharp pain. The pain typically eases after a few minutes of walking, though it can return after periods of rest during the day.

Can foot pain cause knee or back pain?

Yes. The feet form the foundation of the entire body. Poor foot mechanics change the way force travels up through the leg. Over time, this can contribute to knee, hip, and lower back pain. Treating the foot problem often relieves pain in these other areas as well.

How long does it take for foot pain to go away?

Recovery time varies depending on the condition and how long you have had it. Mild cases often improve within a few weeks of starting treatment. More chronic or long-standing conditions can take several months. Your podiatrist will give you a realistic timeframe based on your specific diagnosis.

Should I rest or stay active with foot pain?

This depends on the cause and severity of your pain. Complete rest is not always the best approach, and in some cases gentle activity supports recovery. Your podiatrist will give you specific guidance on activity levels, since the right advice differs for each condition.

Will I need orthotics for my foot pain?

Not always. Orthotics are one of several treatment options and are only recommended when they are likely to genuinely help. Other treatments include footwear changes, strapping, stretching, and strengthening exercises. Your treatment plan will be based on what your assessment shows.
